06-10-03 New Anglesey Enforcement Site

The official opening of the recently completed Enforcement site at Dalar Hir will take place on 7th October at 12 noon. The opening ceremony will be carried out by Maurice Newey, VOSA’s Chief Executive.

The new site was built using funding from the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) and contributions from VOSA. WAG also featured heavily in the construction- by managing the works.

The enforcement site features a dynamic weighbridge which will help enforcement officers check if vehicles are overloaded. Also on site, VOSA staff are able to identify non-compliant operators by checking roadworthiness of vehicles, conducting brake tests, checking licences and by ensuring that lorry drivers follow the regulations on drivers’ hours.

There are currently 66 VOSA Enforcement sites in the UK, all of which play a vital part in helping VOSA to maintain safety on the roads.

Recently in North Wales, VOSA officers have been accredited with the power to stop vehicles for roadside checks and there will be an opportunity to view the vehicles being used for this at the opening. This accreditation is part of a pilot scheme and accreditation has also taken part in Northumbria, Staffordshire and Cambridgeshire.
