23-05-05 MOT Computerisation - Launch

MOT Computerisation went live in garages on 18th April 2005. This was the second phase of the introduction of the new system as VOSA has been using it to enforce the MOT Scheme since February 2005.

Garages have now begun to issue the new style MOT Certificate which will bring significant benefits to motorists in respect of improved consumer protection, a reduction in certificate theft, fraud and forgery and the ability to tax your vehicle on line. To find out more about the benefits of MOT Computerisation please see our page MOT Computerisation - A Guide. To view the new style MOT documents please visit or Forms page.

Garages are currently having a three phase roll out programme comprising the following;

  • Installation. The computer is installed in garages by a Siemens (VOSA’s partner in the project) engineer.
  • Training. VTS staff who will be using MOT Computerisation are trained by a Siemens trainer on how to use to use the system.
  • Activation. After the above two visits have taken place, VTS will receive a visit from a Siemens Activation engineer accompanied by a VOSA Vehicle Examiner. All parties will then agree that the site is ready to be switched over to using MOT Computerisation.

If you are a Vehicle Testing Station please refer to the ‘Be Prepared’ poster which was issued with Special Notice 03-05Adobe PDF Document for further details of the timescales involved and how to make sure your garage is properly prepared for the introduction of MOT Computerisation. Please also see MOT Computerisation - Top 10 Tips for help with ensuring a smooth transition to using the new system, or go to MOT Computerisation VTS FAQs for more information.
