16-04-09 Testing ceases at Bredbury goods vehicle testing station
As announced in January, the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) will cease testing commercial vehicles at Bredbury testing station on 24 April. The site will close as part of an overall testing transformation programme that includes reducing overcapacity within VOSA’s network of testing stations.
Customers have been informed and directed to alternative facilities for future booking including the nearby testing station at Chadderton. Anyone with queries about where to get their vehicle tested can contact the VOSA national number on 0300 123 9000 or at www.vosa.gov.uk or www.businesslink.gov.uk/transport.
VOSA’s long-term plan is to replace its outdated test stations - many of which predate the development of motorways in the UK - with new authorised testing facilities under contract from the Agency.
Alex Fiddes, Chief Operating Officer said;
"These plans to introduce a network of authorised testing facilities will lead to a more efficient customer-focused service for the testing of buses, coaches and lorries operating in the 21st century. In the long term this will increase efficiency for operators by offering testing in more convenient locations reducing the amount of time a vehicle is off the road.”
