21-09-09 Llandrindod Wells Closure

The Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) Llandrindod Wells test station will close on 25 September 2009.

VOSA announced the closure in June and customers have been informed about other testing facilities in the area.

These include five VOSA test stations at Hereford, Pontypool, Aberystwyth, Shrewsbury and Wrexham.

There are also a number of Designated Premises (DPs) with an additional DP expected to open at the beginning of October.

The closure formed part of VOSA’s plan to address over-capacity across the VOSA testing station network.

VOSA halved the supplements currently charged for testing away from Agency premises in April 2009 and plan to abolish the supplement in 2010 subject to consultation. This will reduce costs for operators wanting to use sites run by third parties, which can be more conveniently located to their operations.

Benefits ensuing from the overall modernisation agenda will include:

a service fit for the 21st century
more choice and value for customers
testing closer to the point of maintenance
more flexibility with potential for extended opening hours, leading to reduced
vehicle downtime as, for example, tests can be carried out in the early hours and
vehicles be back on the road later that morning
new business opportunities for operators and maintenance service providers

VOSA (Vehicle and Operator Services Agency) is responsible for:

• Processing applications for licences to operate lorries and buses and registering bus services

• Enforcing drivers' hours and licensing requirements
