13-08-04 Digital Tachograph Update
You may well have seen recent press articles regarding the introduction of digital tachographs and smart cards to the UK market within the next two to three months.
At this point in time the European Commission are still developing the security system for digital tachographs and smart cards. Until this system is in place digital tachographs cannot be introduced.
No decision has been taken as to the date from which Tachograph cards will be issued in the UK. The situation both nationally and within the EU is being monitored closely and when a decision is taken an announcement will be made.
Test cards will be available sometime around the middle of September. Applications for these cards must be in writing to DVLA (E-mail address below) stating number/what cards required and reasons for requirement. There will be a cost associated with this service and cards will have a limited lifespan.
