05-11-07 South East Pilot wins Prince Michael International Road Safety Award

VOSA (Vehicle and Operator Services Agency) and the Highways agency (HA) have scooped a prestigious Prince Michael International Road Safety Award for the South East Pilot. The ceremony took place in Ashford, Kent and was presented to VOSA and the HA by Adrian Walsh, director of the Prince Michael International Road Safety Awards. The award recognises achievement and innovation in order to improve road safety across the world.

Accepting the award on behalf of VOSA, Director of Intelligence and Targeting Janice James said: “We are extremely proud to have won this award and it is no less than our staff, and those at the Highways Agency, deserve after all the effort they have put into making this initiative such a success. I can assure you that this is just the beginning and we will continue working hard to make the road network a safer place.”

Regional Divisional Director John Aspinall, who accepted the award on behalf of the HA, added: “Our staff are delighted to have won this award. It is a clear example of the benefits of good partnership working and our staff are very proud of the outcome; a safer and more reliable strategic road network in the south east.”

The South East Pilot will now be put forward along with the other category winners to compete for the overall premier award, the winner of which will be announced in December.
