On Sunday, 30th March, enforcement officers of the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) carried out a targeted lorry check near the A1M in Cambridgeshire.

During the twelve-hour check the examiners inspected 19 non-UK registered vehicles for overloading and Drivers’ Hours records. VOSA examiners issued the following prohibitions:

- 6 overloading prohibitions,
- 2 Drivers’ Hours prohibitions for failing to produce any records,
- 1 Drivers’ Hours prohibition for insufficient rest (9 hours rest enforced)
- 1 Drivers’ Hours prohibition for insufficient rest (24 hours rest enforced) and
- 5 Drivers’ Hours prohibition insufficient weekly rest (45 hours rest enforced).

Four UK-based vehicles were checked for Drivers’ Hours and overload. As a result, one Drivers’ Hours prohibition was issued for failing to produce any records.

In addition, VOSA examiners inspected 13 non-UK vehicles and trailers for mechanical defects, and issued eight immediate and one delayed prohibitions. One UK-based vehicle and trailer was checked and one delayed prohibition was issued. The most common defects included problems with brakes, tyres, suspension and obscured vision in the driver’s cab.
