30-06-08 VOSA publish revised Categorisation of Defects

An updated Categorisation of Defects is now available from the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA).

The Categorisation of Defects is a publication provided primarily for VOSA examiners for the issue of prohibitions for roadworthiness defects. Its aim is to promote consistency of action and is useful to operators to help them ensure that they are complying with the requirements and to confirm that any action follows VOSA’s standards.

Changes include:

accessibility features, such as wheel chair ramps, for passenger vehicles

speed limiter applications, for larger goods and passenger vehicles. These are shown in a reference table which will be applied in line with the relevant annual test standards

information on the standards applied to ABS/Electronic Braking Systems

exhaust system and registration plate requirements, for lighter vehicles.

The printed version is available to order at £25.00 per copy from VOSA, Welcome House, The Strand, Swansea, SA1 2DH. An electronic version can be downloaded free of charge at:
